A Model for Prayer - ACTS
Throughout this series, we’ve tried to give you some very practical action items to take when it comes to your prayer life. And the biggest thing we want you to remember is that prayer is simply conversing with God. That’s it. The action items in prayer that we’ve given you hopefully have enhanced those conversations with God over the last month.
I want to give you one more practical application for your prayer life. Maybe this can help shape how and what you pray for each day. It can serve as an outline for your prayer life using the acronym A.C.T.S. – acts. I know a few of you already use this in your prayer time with God. But here it is…
A = ADORATION
And that’s simply beginning your prayer time by worshiping and adoring God for who he is and what he’s doing in your life.
C = CONFESSION
And that’s answering the question: What do I need to confess to God? What sins do I need to repent of?
1 John 1:9 says…
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
T = THANKSGIVING
Take some time to thank God for what he’s done in your life.
S = SUPPLICATION
We might use the word intercession, which means to pray for the needs of others. We get the word “supplication” because we’re asking God to supply the needs for someone else.
So, A.C.T.S.
Adoration is looking upward.
Confession is looking inward.
Thanksgiving is looking upward again.
And supplication is looking outward.
Maybe for some of you, this will help enhance your prayer time with God this week.
